Position Summary:
Roots Community Health is seeking an Employee Relations Manager to play a critical role in maintaining a positive work environment by managing employee concerns, resolving workplace conflicts, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and supporting organizational policies. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional with strong conflict resolution skills and a deep understanding of nonprofit workplace dynamics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Employee Relations & Conflict Resolution
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, grievances, and workplace conflicts, ensuring timely and fair resolution.
Conduct investigations into employee complaints, policy violations, and workplace issues, documenting findings and recommending appropriate action.
Advise managers and employees on conflict resolution, performance management, and workplace behavior.
Facilitate mediation sessions and provide guidance on interpersonal workplace challenges.
Compliance & Policy Implementation
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as internal HR policies.
Partner with HR leadership to update and implement workplace policies and procedures in alignment with nonprofit best practices.
Maintain confidential employee records and documentation related to employee relations cases.
Support compliance with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and organizational goals.
Performance & Workplace Culture Support
Assist managers in handling performance concerns and disciplinary actions, ensuring consistency and fairness in application.
Support leadership in fostering a positive workplace culture by providing guidance on employee engagement and retention strategies.
Conduct exit interviews and provide feedback to leadership on trends related to employee satisfaction and workplace issues.
Training & Documentation
Provide feedback from investigations and work with the Director of HR and Staff Development to develop and deliver training sessions for managers and employees on topics such as workplace ethics, conflict resolution, and employment law updates.
Keep a log of each investigation/complaint and exercise effective communication, documentation, while respecting employee confidentiality, and retaliation policy.
Competencies:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field .
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of HR experience with a focus on employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution (nonprofit experience preferred).
Certifications: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.
Strong knowledge of employment laws, labor relations, and HR best practices.
Excellent problem-solving, mediation, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism, discretion, and empathy.
Experience conducting workplace investigations and drafting clear, objective reports.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in HRIS systems (ADP & Paylocity), case management tools, and Google Office Suite.
Regular onsite office hours each week is required. Specific days and times are contingent upon business needs and availability.
This position may require weekend work and occasional overtime based on business needs. Flexibility in scheduling is appreciated
